Care & Cleaning

A quiet moment. An appreciation for craftsmanship. A calm ritual. This is the stewardship of caring for a piece handcrafted in Africa. With simple acts of care, you honour our legacy, allowing each piece to age beautifully and, in time, become a family heirloom.

Caring for Silver

Silver naturally develops a soft patina over time - a character that reflects the life lived with each piece. With occasional cleaning, its brightness can be gently restored while preserving the detail of the sculpted forms.

A soft silver polishing cloth or a gentle silver cleaning solution will remove tarnish and maintain the natural lustre of the metal. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry carefully with a soft cloth.

With thoughtful care from time to time, your silver will continue to age beautifully, retaining its character while preserving its brilliance.

Our Choice for Silver Care

Caring for Jewellery

Our jewellery is crafted in sterling silver, 18ct gold, and in some pieces, set with precious stones.

Silver can be gently cleaned with a silver polishing cloth or solution.

Gold jewellery can be refreshed with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth.

Pieces set with precious stones should be cleaned with mild soapy water and a soft brush, then rinsed and dried carefully.

Caring for Objets D'art

Large objets d’art can be gently cleaned using a suitable silver cleaning solution, ensuring all surfaces are rinsed and carefully dried with a soft cloth.

For sculptures mounted on dark wooden bases, care should be taken to avoid contact with cleaning solutions. The wood can be maintained with a small amount of black boot polish, applied sparingly and buffed with a soft cloth to restore its depth of colour.

Caring for Homestead

When caring for your Homestead pieces, we recommend avoiding dishwashers or other automated cleaning methods.

Instead, wash gently by hand in warm, soapy water and dry carefully with a soft cloth.

Candle Holders & Ashtrays

Wax residue on candelabras or candle holders can be removed with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Ashtrays should be emptied and rinsed after use, then washed by hand and dried thoroughly.

Coffee, Cocktail & Wine Pieces

Pieces exposed to tannins, caffeine, or acidic beverages should be cleaned promptly in warm, soapy water and dried with a soft cloth.

Salt & Pepper Shakers

Designed for fine table salt and finely ground pepper. The interiors are gold plated; we recommend not storing salt or pepper in the shakers for extended periods, as salt may corrode silver over time and pepper may accelerate tarnishing. For best care, empty the shakers after use and keep them clean and dry.

Desk & Writing Pieces

Pen holders, paperweights, and letter openers can be cleaned with warm, soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Ink marks or adhesive residue from envelopes can usually be removed with a small amount of rubbing alcohol applied gently with a soft cloth.

Professional Cleaning

We are pleased to offer complimentary cleaning for all our pieces. Clients are welcome to visit any of our boutiques or contact a location to arrange sending their pieces to us. Our team will carefully restore the brilliance of your silver.
