Year of the Tiger
Craftsmanship | February 2022
Not long after, the tiger reached the river, entering with strength and confidence, yet finding the current far more powerful than expected. Its journey was not straightforward, and it was forced to push against the flow, relying on determination rather than ease.
By the time it reached the far bank, it had earned its place through effort, arriving third, its position defined not by strategy, but by resilience and will.
Within the rhythm of the zodiac, there are moments where a different kind of presence begins to emerge, not as a departure from what has come before, but as a natural progression in energy, where intention becomes more defined and movement carries a greater sense of purpose.
The Year of the Tiger holds this place within the cycle, representing courage, confidence and a clarity of instinct that allows it to move through the world with quiet authority. It is an animal that does not rely on constant motion, but on precision, where each step is considered and each action carries meaning, creating a presence that is both assured and restrained.
This sense of character is reflected in the continued evolution of the Zodiac Cufflink Collection, designed and handcrafted by Patrick Mavros Jnr in our studio in Harare, Zimbabwe. As the collection develops, each piece remains grounded in the same principles of craftsmanship, while allowing the individuality of the animal to shape the language of its form.
The Year of the Tiger cufflinks are composed with a focus on balance and structure, capturing the animal in a poised and attentive state. The form is defined through proportion rather than embellishment, with subtle detailing that suggests the markings and strength of the tiger without overwhelming the piece. There is a sense of contained energy within the design, where movement is implied rather than expressed, allowing the character of the animal to reveal itself gradually.
In the natural world, the tiger moves with a deliberate rhythm, guided by instinct and an acute awareness of its surroundings. It is a solitary animal, defined not by display, but by presence, where strength is held in reserve and revealed only when necessary. This ability to remain composed while carrying a latent intensity is what gives the tiger its distinctive character.

This understanding informs the process of making, where sterling silver is shaped through a patient and considered approach, allowing each element of the form to emerge through refinement. The work is guided by hand and by experience, ensuring that the final piece carries both clarity and depth, without excess.
To wear the Year of the Tiger is to carry a symbol of confidence that is grounded rather than declared, reflecting a way of moving through the world that is guided by instinct, shaped by awareness, and defined by a quiet sense of purpose.
