The Tusk Awards 2024
Events | November 2024
There are moments when recognition begins to reveal something deeper — not only who is being honoured, but what it truly takes to be seen.
The Tusk Conservation Awards 2024 marked another year of bringing forward individuals whose work, often carried out far from view, has a lasting impact on Africa’s wildlife and the communities that depend on it. More than a decade on, the awards have come to represent a careful and considered process — one that seeks to identify not only achievement, but sustained commitment, resilience and the ability to create meaningful change over time.

Behind each recipient is a story shaped by years, often decades, of dedication. The selection process itself reflects this — recognising individuals whose work has been tested in some of the most complex and challenging environments, and whose impact continues to extend far beyond a single moment of recognition.
This year’s winners reflected that depth. Across the categories, their work spoke to a conservation landscape that is increasingly defined by collaboration — where community, knowledge and long-term thinking are as vital as protection itself. From those working at a leadership level to those on the front lines, their efforts form part of a much larger and interconnected story.
For our family, 2024 also marked a meaningful milestone — the fifth year of creating the Tusk Award trophies. Over time, this has become far more than a collaboration. It is a relationship shaped by shared values, where craftsmanship meets conservation in a way that continues to evolve with each passing year.

Where craft meets conservation
To be entrusted with this role is a responsibility we hold deeply. Each trophy is not simply an object, but a tribute — shaped to reflect the story, the landscape, and the purpose of the individual it is awarded to.
Designed and sculpted by Patrick Mavros Jnr, each piece continues to draw from Africa’s wild places — carrying with it a sense of place, permanence and connection. Yet, with each passing year, the meaning behind the work deepens, shaped by the individuals and stories it comes to represent.
Presented under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince William, the awards remain a powerful platform for recognising those whose work defines the future of conservation across the continent.
What becomes clear, year after year, is that conservation is not a single act, but a sustained effort — built through patience, collaboration and an enduring commitment to protecting what is irreplaceable.

For us, being part of the Tusk Awards is about more than the act of making. It is about contributing to something that continues to grow in meaning — a partnership built over time, grounded in respect, and connected to a shared purpose. Through our work alongside Tusk Trust, we are reminded that true impact is not defined by a single moment, but by what endures long after it.
